Can a map in the game be both old and new simultaneously? Yes, it can, at least if we are talking about Thera. Players already saw this map in 2016 in CS:GO. Back then, it was known as Santorini.
The map has high-quality visuals and classic gameplay aspects typical for Counter-Strike maps. However, as expected, Thera did not compete in popularity with the giants of the map pool, such as Mirage, Dust2, Inferno, and Nuke. The location remained a niche place for those who enjoy something original.
What does this mean? That’s right: we can take advantage of the low popularity of this map. Many players come here just to have fun without setting any serious goals. They rarely know this map’s timings, Thera callouts, and other aspects. So, if you learn all these details, you will gain a significant competitive advantage over your opponents and significantly increase your chances of success.

Key Zones of Thera Callouts
First, let’s look at the main large locations on this map. These are the zones into which Thera is logically divided. In this aspect, this map is no different from other representatives of the map pool.
- A Site – This is one of the two plant sites for terrorists. The distinctive feature of this site is its versatility. There is a relatively large number of entry points to the site. So, the attacking side can use various scenarios, including multiple split variations.
- B Site – The alternative site. The logic remains the same: terrorists need to plant the explosive; counter-terrorists must prevent this or defuse the bomb if it has already been planted. This site has elevated positions that help the defending side hold the site: Heaven and Stairs.
- Mid – The central part of the map. Controlling it is crucial for two reasons. First, you can monitor enemy rotations. It means you can catch them off guard while they move from one site to another. Second, mid control allows you to change the direction of your attack quickly (if you play as terrorists) or respond rapidly to a bomb plant threat on one of the sites (if you play as counter-terrorists).
- T Spawn – This is where rounds begin for terrorists. Players receive standard pistols. All other weapons must be bought through the buy menu.
- CT Spawn – It’s the same area for the defending team. Counter-terrorists can spawn in different locations a few meters apart. The exact spawn configuration may determine which CT player takes which position, depending on their distance from the spawn point.
As we mentioned, the large CS2 Thera map callouts are no different from positions on other maps. The more minor spots are a different story. We will discuss them in the next section.
All CS2 Thera Callouts
Here, we will talk about small, detailed Thera map CS2 callouts. Having heard one of the names of these locations in voice chat, you will know where to go or move your crosshair literally to the pixel. The main thing is to devote enough time to studying these positions.
- Above B – An elevated position above the B site that can be useful for both teams. Terrorists get a great view of the entire plant and can quickly eliminate distracted opponents. Counter-terrorists can perform better retakes using this point: again, it is easier to react to everything happening on the site from above. In addition, the Above B position allows you to throw grenades into hard-to-reach places easily.
- Arch – A large, beautiful archway that terrorists pass through when moving from their spawn toward A site. Near this location, there are excellent lineup spots for throwing grenades toward Mid and A site.
- Balcony – A small balcony that is located near point B. This is another place from the category of Thera map callouts CS2, which can be helpful for both teams. This balcony gives an excellent view and the ability to fire at numerous positions. But of course, there is also a disadvantage. If you go out onto the balcony, your game model is very clearly visible, and you can become an easy target for an enemy in a more hidden position.
- Bar – A visually atmospheric location on the map. It is hard to confuse it with any other place because it is… a bar. Stage, lights, and other elements typical of such establishments are here. Additionally, there is a piano in this area, so an alternative callout for this location is “piano.”
The bar’s windows give a clear view of A site. It is an excellent position for those defending a point and attacking it. It allows you to fire at enemies and hide behind objects if necessary to avoid getting a return bullet. - Catwalk – A long passage that gives you a great view of plant A. That’s the good news. But there’s also the bad news: this position is vulnerable to many points. In particular, the Bar mentioned above. The player in the Bar can eliminate the enemy on Catwalk without much danger to themselves. Therefore, you need to use smoke grenades or get help from teammates who will control the points from which the enemy can potentially appear.
- Cliff – A position that counter-terrorists pass on their way to B site. A defender can stop here to control Connector and Mid. This can be useful if terrorists choose this route to reach B. However, this positioning does not guarantee success, as attackers can take an alternative path.
- Connector – One of the Thera CS2 callouts that serves the same function as on other maps: linking key positions. In this case, Connector provides a fast route from Mid to B site.
Counter-terrorists have a slight advantage here because they can shoot through this passage from the nearby Cliff position. - CT – A position close to A site. Near CT, there is a window with a good view of the central part of the map. It is a good spot to get some kills by eliminating opponents who are taking the fastest route to B site.
But this window is a very popular position. If you face players who have played at least 20-30 matches on this map, they will likely expect you there, and instead of getting a frag, you might become the frag yourself. - Donut – It has become a tradition in Counter-Strike for players to name large, round columns “donuts”. This location has one such column. It is indoors, so it is a relatively safe spot.
Important! This area has no roof. Because of this, it is an excellent spot for throwing grenades. For example, you can use it to perfectly smoke off Connector, making it easier for your teammates to control Mid. - Double Doors – Large double doors are located in the central part of the map. They resemble the double doors near point B on the Dust 2 map: they are tall and monumental, too. Passing these doors means entering “enemy territory” because they divide the map into two control zones.
- Heaven – Another one of the elevated Thera callouts CS2 and again near point B. This position is perfect for attackers defending an already planted bomb from a retake. It allows shooting at enemies and taking cover to hide when necessary.
- Long – A long passage that leads from T spawn to Mid. Attackers can use it if the CTs use a round to push the enemy. It’s perfect for a sniper who can take out CTs and take cover while reloading.

- Middle – The central area of the map, from which paths lead to almost every significant location in Thera. Players can quickly and easily reach the Connector, Double Doors, and other spots from here. Controlling this zone is vital for terrorists because it allows them to change the course of the round at any moment.
- Ninja – As with any other map, a position with this name is a sneaky spot where players can ambush unsuspecting opponents. In this case, the position is near the ladder, which is near the T Spawn. Counter-terrorists should always check this location to avoid being caught off guard.
- Platform – A large platform that provides defending players control over almost the entire A site. From here, you can shoot at enemies coming from Catwalk and Ramp. The disadvantage of this position is the lack of cover objects. If you face multiple opponents, your chances of survival are much lower.
- Ramp – This position is below the Platform mentioned above. From here, you can surprise the player above, who is controlling another area. If you follow the Ramp, you will come to site A.
- Secret – A position that resembles Underpass on Mirage. It is also an underground tunnel. Because of this, don’t be surprised if you hear the voice chat’s call “tunnel”.
The position is excellent for attackers who want to add variety to the B point capture. - Stairs – This is a large multi-level staircase that gives access to many positions on the map: for example, Double Doors, Plant B, and Mid. Attackers can use the stairs to quickly change the attack vector and sneakily (if they are lucky) attack point A.
- T – The spawn point where attackers appear before each round. This is one of the CS2 Thera callouts that opens access to many directions: Secret, Double Doors, and Top Mid. Attackers also buy equipment here before the round begins and replenish their ammunition.
- Top Middle – An elevated location in the center of the map. Snipers favor it due to the wide-open spaces. From Top Middle, players can quickly shift to Mid and decide on the direction of their attack when playing as terrorists.
- Trash – There is trash even on such a beautiful, refined map, but what can we do 😊. The position is often used by CT players to quickly access Mid through plant A. Simply put, this is a great reference point when performing rotations.
However, you need to be careful because when you go to Mid, there is a high probability that an enemy sniper will be waiting for you. If you have a pistol or a farm gun, it is better not to go here. - Truck – The position is located near the CT spawn. There is no truck in the form we are accustomed to. There is an armored jeep. But who cares if players are used to calling everything that looks like a vehicle “a truck” 😊?
- Upper – This is a ladder that will take you to the Cliff position. You can jump down and get to the Double Doors if you want. This position is especially useful for defenders if the terrorists heavily attack point A. Using Upper, you can quickly get to where the main firefight is.
- Wall – A point located in the central part of the map, near Trash and Window. It allows you to control what’s happening on the map and gives an excellent opportunity to hear enemy movements without having direct visual contact. In short, the team can put a scout here.
- Window – Another position that logically resembles a similar spot on Mirage. It’s a large window that gives a good view of Mid, and sniper fire often occurs here.
How to learn Thera map callouts in CS2?
If you have never played on Santorini, the prototype of this map, or on Thera itself, start with theory. Carefully (and preferably several times) read our guide and roughly memorize where each position is located. Fortunately, this is not difficult because most positions have intuitively understandable names.
- After that, move on to practice. Open an empty server and run around Thera for at least half an hour. Find all the listed positions and memorize the routes to them.
- Then, move on to real matches. Of course, starting your path on Thera is best by playing with friends. They will give you information at the right moment and, most likely, will not scold you if you get lost at a critical moment.
- After that, you can go on a “free sailing”. Play and enjoy the beautiful views of Thera!
CS2 Thera Map Tips and Tricks for CT and T Sides
For CT
- If planting the bomb is inevitable, always try to take a high position for the retake. As we mentioned, there are enough such points on the map near the bomb sites. This will significantly ease your task of retaking, including making it easier to throw Molotov cocktails and HE grenades into potential enemy locations.
- Do not buy a sniper rifle at the first opportunity. On this map, it is not useful everywhere. Maybe it’s better to spend more money on grenades, which are often much more critical on Thera.
- Do not ignore the need to reinforce B site. Yes, this site is not very popular on some other maps, but not on Thera. Here, terrorists often conduct an attack.
For Terrorists
- Take control of the middle as often as you can. In our guide, you already read that controlling the central part of the map allows you to maneuver easily and quickly change the direction of your attack. After you get the necessary information, you can quickly reach the other plant if needed.
- Look up! The map is full of elevated positions where defensive players, including snipers, may often be located.
- Don’t take part in long firefights with a sniper. If the enemy takes a shot and misses, don’t tempt fate a second time. Choose a different route to move. The point is that the enemy will have to leave a comfortable position due to the lack of targets, and at a short distance, you will have a much better chance of success.
